OSTRANDER -- Root River Energy, along with its managing partner National Wind, has secured 20,000 acres of land in Fillmore and Mower counties for its proposed 300 megawatt community-owned wind farm development.

Their overall goal is to sign 30,000 contiguous acres, meaning they're two-thirds of the way there.

Root River Energy field specialists Jim Connolly and Barry Rogne have been one of National Wind's most productive field
teams, company officials said Thursday. During the last few months, the team was able to sign 10,000 acres. More than 7,600 of those acres were in eastern Mower County, which they added to their footprint in May.

Mower County Board member Ray Tucker, whose district hosts all of the county's wind farms, said it's good Root River
Energy has secured the land, which is in the southeast corner, but he wants to see construction start on another wind farm.
