Fillmore County Journal Article-Overview of Root River Energy
The Location:
Root River Energy’s wind developments will be located in Fillmore and Mower County in Southeastern Minnesota.
The majority of the project area falls within the Rochester Plateau ecological subsection, which spans across large farmsteads, several small towns, and numerous trees and woodlots. Most of the area consists of cropland and grassland, which are generally suitable for wind farm development. The majority of the land within the project footprint is privately owned, yet there are several state-owned parcels.
Size:
-Potential output capacity up to an aggregate of 300 MW (megawatts)
-Provides enough energy to generate electricity to 87,600 homes each year
-Displaces more than 840 tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually
The Ownership Structure:
Local participation and ownership are fundamental to Root River Energy, LLC. The community-based approach encourages cooperation amongst a large contingent of local farmers and agricultural producers. The goal of the ownership structure is to provide landowners the ability to participate in an energy project that directly benefits their local communities.
The Commercial Operation Date:
Root River Energy is scheduled to begin commercial operation over the course of the next three to five years.
